Rug Pads

The cheapest thing you can do to extend a rug's life, and the one most often done wrong.

Method

How it is done

A proper pad absorbs the compression that would otherwise be taken by the foundation, and it keeps the rug from creeping. Felt-and-rubber construction is what we fit. What we remove is the waffle-textured plastic pad sold in most shops — the plasticiser in it migrates into the rug backing and into floor finish, and it eventually welds itself to both.

Why It Matters

What happens if it waits

Without a pad, every footstep grinds the foundation against a hard floor. With the wrong pad, you get a chemical problem on top of the mechanical one.

Tell-tale sign: A pad that has gone tacky, crumbles when lifted, or has left a pattern on the floor beneath it.
